AISD Up Close
Priorities in the Fight to protect AISD
Defend Austin ISD From State Attacks
At a time when our state leaders actively work to attack our public school systems, immigrant communities, LGBTQIA+ students, and local decision-making, I believe Austin ISD must continue to stand firm in protecting our students, families, and staff.
Responsibly Handle AISD Finances
As a trustee, I will fight for sustainable solutions that minimize the impact on classrooms, thoughtful decision-making that prioritizes the district's long-term stability, and ensure AISD never loses sight of the students and staff impacted by budget decisions.
Rebuild Trust
Cuts, closures, and poor communication have eroded trust with communities across AISD. Many feel disconnected from decision-making and frustrated by a lack of transparency, accountability, and long-term planning. As a trustee, I am committed to re-building lost trust with the community.
High-Quality Education for Every Student
In the midst of tough conversations, it’s important not to lose sight on what should always be AISD's top priority, providing high-quality public education to every student. I look forward to working with families, staff, and the community to address struggling campuses & overall improvements to academic quality in Austin ISD.
Prepare for a Takeover
Even in the event of a state takeover, the elected school board continues to exist. It's crucial to have trustees who can protect our public schools, hold the TEA accountable, and navigate our way out of takeover. I'm ready to fight for our district.
Committed to Being a Neighborhood Trustee
Cuts, closures, and consolidations have left our community hurting. Too often, families and staff feel like major decisions are being made without meaningful input or clear communication from the district. I believe trustees have a responsibility not just to listen to the community, but to actively engage with it.
I also understand that existing engagement often doesn’t work for working families and busy schedules. I’m committed to finding ways to meet people where they are - evenings, weekends, chats in pick-up lines, and whatever else it takes to reach folks.
I want to be a "neighborhood trustee” , hyper accessible, present, and deeply involved in our school communities. I’ve already spent countless hours talking with families about their outlook on the district and have attended more than 100 AISD meetings, forums, and community conversations across the city because I believe showing up matters.
Ready to Tackle the Budget Crisis
Austin ISD recently passed $205 million worth of cuts for the coming school year and will face millions more in future budget cycles. Now more than ever, the district needs leadership that can balance the need for financial stewardship and efforts to minimize cuts that directly impact students.
I believe my accounting background and strong understanding of our state’s school finance system uniquely positions me to help the district find creative, sustainable ways to tackle our financial crisis.
As a trustee, I’m committed to asking tough questions, evaluating the budget line by line, and working to reach long-term stability for the district. Our community deserves leadership that can responsibly manage the district’s finances while remaining deeply committed to protecting the quality of public education in Austin ISD.
Governor Abbott and the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature have launched a coordinated effort to attack our public education system. As a result, many of Austin ISD’s biggest problems are state created.
Whether it’s failure to adequately fund schools, new unfunded mandates, billions of our property tax dollars paid in recapture, threats from Ken Paxton over student ICE protests & Pride celebrations, growing competition from unregulated charter schools & now vouchers, the ten commandments in classrooms, excessive high-stakes testing, a rigged A-F school rating system, religious infused curriculum, or the looming threat of a state takeover.
Working in the Texas Legislature, I’ve seen firsthand the impact state policy decisions have on our classrooms. Austin ISD needs trustees who understand the complex challenges that threaten our district and can help navigate them.
